Park Cities/North Dallas


If the question is what are the best suburbs in Dallas, most often the answer is Highland Park, University Park and north Dallas. The same goes for questions regarding the best places to live in Dallas.

Highland Park and University Park, collectively referred to as the park cities, together form an enclave that is surrounded completely by the city of Dallas. Both Highland Park and University Park are ranked among the 2019 best suburbs in the DFW area and the public schools that serve University Park and most of Highland Park typically are at the top of any objectively compiled best DFW school districts, areas with best neighborhoods schools and best DFW public high schools lists. Because the north Dallas area is the northern suburb of the city of Dallas and not a stand-alone municipal unit, most of the metrics used for evaluating other Dallas suburbs profiled on this website are not available and it therefore was not considered in the best Dallas suburbs analysis.

Highland Park and University Park offer their residents distinctly beautiful houses and charming, prestigious neighborhoods. They also have the distinction of being where the most luxury mansions and the most established luxury homes neighborhoods in the metroplex are located.

The southern part of the north Dallas area is known especially for its luxurious homes and out-of-the-way, country-like setting. If you are looking for an estate property with acreage anywhere near downtown Dallas, this probably is where you will find it. The homes and neighborhoods in the northern part of the north Dallas area, sometimes referred to as far north Dallas, are somewhat newer and, in a number of ways, similar to what is found in west Plano, its neighbor to the north.
