Listed below are schools attended by north Dallas students that earned 2018 top DFW open enrollment high schools, 2018 top DFW open enrollment middle schools and 2018 top DFW open enrollment elementary schools rankings. Student achievement indexes, numbers of students and student-teacher ratios for all north Dallas public schools are provided at the bottom of this page.
Highland Park High School, Plano West Senior High School / Jasper High School / Shepton High School, Highland Park Middle School, Bradfield Elementary School and University Park Elementary School additionally earned spots on the 2018 Texas best high schools, 2018 Texas best middle schools and 2018 Texas best elementary schools rankings.
Most students living in far north Dallas are eligible to attend Plano ISD schools, except those residing in all or part of six communities and neighborhoods. Most students living in these neighborhoods attends Dallas ISD schools or Richardson ISD schools, as do most students who reside in the southern part of north Dallas. Students from two neighborhoods in far north Dallas attend Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD schools and a small number of students who reside in the southern part of north Dallas attend Highland Park ISD schools.
More than 90 percent of the students who attend only ten of the forty-four public schools that serve the north Dallas area met or exceeded the Texas Education Agency (TEA) 2017 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) achievement standard. Parental dissatisfaction with student performance at the public schools attended by most students living in north Dallas is probably the major reason that a relatively large number of private schools have chosen to locate their campuses in this general area.
The 2017 accountability rating for forty-three of the forty-four campuses serving the north Dallas area is Met Standard, currently the TEA top campus and district rating. Rusk Middle School received an Improvement Required rating. Dallas Independent School District, Plano Independent School District, Richardson ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District and Highland Park ISD also all received Met Standard ratings. Highland Park ISD and Plano Independent School District are ranked among the 2018 best school districts in Texas.
